Andrew

Can anyone offer any suggestion.

I purchased a new P4 ACER ASPIRE this week and it comes
with XP home installed as the operating system.

I have a copy of XP Professional and I attempted to
upgrade (I have previously done this with two laptop pc's
successfully.)

During the upgrade, , I lose the "start", "connect to"
area and my broadband connection through the WAN miniport
(PPPoE)

When I rebild the machine back to the factory settings
(with XP Home), I regain the ability to establish an
internet connection.

I spent several hours on the phone with my ISP's tech
people and they could not find the problem or a solution.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received to morgan.a

I've got a similar problem whith a desktop PC.

Everything seemed OK after the upgrade from home to pro (no missing
drivers), but the PC was slow and the LAN connection wasn't working well.
After a chipset driver reinstall, everything went OK.

So I would suggest you to reinstall the chipset drivers and other drivers
involved in your PPPoE connection, eg. LAN card drivers.

Hope that this can help you
S.
