I purchased XP Pro to upgrade my laptop about a month
ago. My laptop, has started failing and diags show
losing a hd. So I purchased a new laptop yesterday,
running XP Home ed. and was just going to upgrade with my
XP Pro that I have for the old system, I don't think it
will make it another day or two.

PROBLEM: When attempting to upgrade from Home to Pro, it
looks as though it is installing however; it acts as
though it is in a loop. I will install everything then
re-boot and do the same install again, until you stop it.

Any clues how I can get around this?

Need a little more info. The upgrade is a valid one, and should work. The best
install is of course a clean install. But, if you are trying to do an upgrade of Xp
Home to Xp Pro, it may be best to remove the drivers in Device Manager before
starting the process.

Here is why I say this is a good thing to try...

With the limited info in you post, here is what I think is happening. The PC is
rebooting during the process, but not due to setup needing a reboot at that time, but
as a setup crash. When that happens it goes back to the last setup point and starts
the process over again. It then gets to the crash point again, and walla, the loop...
I've seen this occur. Removing the drivers for all of the devices helped me.

Good luck!
