I upgraded an existing win2000pro (sp3) install to keep
the multiple connections/applications and a clean install
is not an option.
However, the upgrade will not, even manually (or repeating
the MSKB article 315270 steps as a backup) allow me to set
the virtual memory.
The Virtual memory dialog box shows any corrections I make
correctly, but they never register with the system -- it
continuously believes I have zero bytes of virtual memory,
and takes almost 20 minutes as a blank screen, then
another 15 minutes after logging in as the Administrator
to 'self-configure' a paging file so the system will
operate.
This is a 'home office' installation, so no network domain
is involved; running 1.8ghz intell/1gb memory. SP1 and 37
(not a misprint) upgrades installed from the net. I did
encounter the 100% cpu problem due to the win2000 Roxio
install of Creator6, but followed the knowledgebase
article and disabled that. The virtual memory problem
seems entirely unrelated.
I have tried everything I can think of, and need help.
Many thanks in advance,
Gene
