I'm upgrading from Windows NT to Windows XP Professional.
After the install does some deleting and copying, it
freezes on a blue screen that says "Please wait while
Setup initializes your Windows XP configuration". The
bottom status line says "Initializing configuration...".
My first attempt at the upgrade got stuck and I couldn't
do anything, so turned off machine. When I turn it back
on it asks for the install CD, proceeds for a while then
give the blue screen with the "Please wait.." message I
listed above.
Thanks for any help.

Physically disconnect all hardware peripheral devices....have only
your monitor, mouse and keyboard connected to your computer.

Prior to the upgrade attempt, did you run the Upgrade Advisor?

I tried disconnecting all peripherals except the devices
you mentioned. Same thing happened again - screen freezes
with "Please wait while Setup initializes...". I ran the
compatibility option that is on the first upgrade screen
to check computer (I believe it was called Upgrade
Advisor). It listed several programs that would not be
compatible, but they were NT monitoring programs that I
didn't think mattered since I'm no longer connected to a
network. It didn't list any hardware compatibility
problems. Any other suggestions? I did backup all files
off of the computer in case I have to do a new install.
Thanks for your help.
