When I upgraded from Outlook XP to 2003 I lost all my rules. Is there a way
to recover them? I have a ghost disk of the original installation but did
not export the rzw(?) file so I can not simply import the old rules. Help
please?

P.S. I also find Outlook 2003 will not close and leaves an icon in the
system tray.

Starting with Outlook 2002, rules have been stored in the .PST file instead
of in a separate .RWZ file. You might want to try repairing your .PST
file...

Thanks. Can I open the file as another folder or do I have to rename the
backup one to the default personal folder pst file?

Jocelyn:

I repaired the files and it didn't work. I have the original Outlook.pst
file that was working and has the rules in it from when I was using Outlook
2002. Do you have any suggestions as how to "extract" the rules from that
file?

I seem to remember having some trouble with this when I upgraded to 2003 as
well. I think what I did was open my old .PST file from OL2002 in OL2003
(using File | Open | Outlook Data File), make it my default, open the Rules
Wizard and check to see if the rules were there (they were), then switch
back to the new OL2003 .PST as my default, and the rules remained. You can
try this and see if it works for you. Make backup copies of your .PST files
first if you're worried about anything happening to them while you
experiment.
