I recently got a used laptop from a relative. It has
windows 2000 pro on it. I am going to set up a wireless
network at my house with this laptop. My desktop is
running on xp home. Should I install xp home on the laptop
or is it ok to leave 2000 pro as the operating system? I
mainly use the computer for Office XP and internet.

I would leave Win2k on the laptop. Laptops have proprietary hardware and
software and it might be hard to find appropriate updates for XP.
Besides, Win2k is still a good operating system. The wireless router (I
assume that's what you're going to buy) does not care what operating
system you use. If the laptop doesn't have a built-in wireless card,
make sure you buy a card that supports Win2k (most do). It is often
easiest if you are buying a wireless card and router to buy the same
brand.

If you want to share files between your XP desktop and your Win2k
laptop, make user accounts and passwords on the laptop to match the
ones on the desktop and share out appropriate resources.

Save your money, stick with 2K.

I'd leave it at Windows 2000 unless there is some real pressing need for
WinXP on that machine.

Leave it 2K.
