Hi,

We have a box with XP Pro build 2600 (one of the first versions) and now I want
to upgrade to the latest XP with the SP1 and 2 in it.

I have many programs and do want want to have to waste hours reinstalling
everything unless I have to.

Can I just upgrade it from inside the XP already on the box?

Is there anything I must back up or be aware of?

If yes, what Reg number do I use when asked, the old one or the new one?

Thanks

Simply download and install SP2 (which includes the SP1 fixes)

You mean "activate," not "register," but you won't have to do either.

As Ken Blake said, all you need to do is to install SP2.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 complete download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

If you antiicipate a possible need to do a clean install of XP in
future you might want to create a new Windows XP installation CD that
has Service Pack 2 slipstreamed into it:

Good luck
