My Gateway computer came with Windows ME installed. Of
course the Windows ME operating system CD-ROM is not
a "seperate" disk, it's included as part of the "restore
system" CD's from Gateway.

So, here's my question; I want to do a Fresh install of
XP, but XP asks me to insert the previous "qualifying"
Windows CD to verify eligibility for upgrade, but my
Gateway CD Restore Disk is not recognized and that's all I
have. What can I do???

When you insert the Restore CD in the CD Drive, click on the
"browse" button and point it to the i386 directory in the Restore CD.
If there is no i386 directory, then you'll have to reinstall Windows ME
and go the "Upgrade" route.

Actually, you can install ME, then with the upgrade, you should get the
option to kill the ME install and just have XP. Just read the screens as
they come up, and don't just click the defaults.

When you insert the Restore CD in the CD Drive, click on the
"browse" button and point it to the i386 directory in the Restore CD.
If there is no i386 directory, then you'll have to reinstall Windows ME
