Updating ffrom 98 to XP

How do you uninstall windows 98 completly and install
windows XP.
I've tried to install windows xp byu placing the cd in.
There are problems within windows 98 and if i simply
ungrade by placing the cd in all the problems from windows
98 will carry over to windows xp. How do unistall one and
install the new one so the problems dont carry over?

If you have an upgrade version of XP you will need the original 98CD to do this
During the NEW install of XP you will have the option to format the drive.
