Updating dates automatically

Dear All,

I want to be able to have the date to automatically change on a slide
only when I make changes/edits to the slide/ppt. presentation.

As a very novice powerpoint user and not a an expert computer person,
it appears that the only way to have a date automatically updated is to
use the function within the "header/footer" option. However, when I
use this function, the date is automatically updated even if I just
click on the document name and open it.

I am setting up a slide presentation where others will go into to
periodically update their slides. Other people will then go to this
slide presentation and use it for reports, etc. They need to know when
it was last updated. The people making the changes are less adept than
me at using powerpoint. If I ask them to manually change to date when
they make changes, they may not be able to do, or they may be able to
forget. I want the date to change in the slide only when they go into
the ppt. and edit it.

Is there a way to do this?

Or, is there a way to send a reminder message before closing out of a
document they are editing, to change the date?

This is difficult for me to explain but hopefully I have been able to
convey what I am trying to do.

No worries, your explanation is quite clear.
Powerpoint doesn't offer this kind of feature, unfortunately.

An add-in (a special program that integrates into PowerPoint) might be able to
pop up a reminder when users save the presentation, but it'd need to be
installed on each user's PC in order to work.
