updates not installing

Had to do a repair of XP installation. Had
Service Pack 2 on install disk. Now updates are
notifying me, downloading, but not installing.
When downloading I get everything from Critical
kb885884 to kb944653. I also get updates: kb889391
to kb942840. I've tried "express" install and
"custom". Each time I get a message saying the
following were not installed: kb.......... etc.
Looks like all are listed again.
Do I have to install these one at a time?

thank you PA Bear for the great help. I went
to the link you sent, followed the knowledge base
instructions and BINGO... my 75 updates installed
without a hitch. I never would have considered the
reason for my problem. Thank you again.

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
