I got my son a new computer for Christmas and took his old computer. I just
realized that updates are not installing on this computer, and no updates
have installed since May of 2006. Automatic updates is on, and it is set to
automatically install. I went to the update website, click express or
custom, and it says "Files Required to Use Microsoft Update are No Longer
Installed - Click to Fix" I click to fix, and it says installing, and takes
me back to the express/custom page, and then I do it again, and get the same
message.

I am at a loss!! I cannot find any support info on this. If anyone can
help, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Does the old computer have SP2 on it?

Desperado,

Do you get any error codes when you try Windows Update?

One thing you can try is to go into the 'Downloaded Program Files' folder &
delete the Windows Update control then go back to the site & try again?

Do you have a firewall on blocking it? Try disabling & then try again.

The other user asked if you have SP 2 installed? If not, it would push it to
you anyway.

Last month there were many people complaining that the Feb 2007 updates
weren't installing. In fact they did install, but it took like 20 mins or
more from when they were downloaded to when they started to install. The
same seemed to be repeated a few days ago with the release of the new
Malicious Removal Tool.

Keep us posted

No, I don't get any errors, just stating the the files are missing. The only
firewall I have is the SP 2 firewall.

Where do I find the Downloaded Program Files? In the add and remove
programs icon?

I will try to remove and reinstall and see if that helps. I'll let you know.

I appreciate everyones help!!
