Chris

I hope you can help me out. My new PC automatically
updated windows and now a window keeps popping up saying:

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have
been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain
system stability, Windows must restore the original
version of these files. Insert your Windows XP Home
edition Service Pack 1 CD now." But when I put the CD in
the window disappears but comes back in a few seconds. If
I press cancel instead of inserting the disk another
window pops open and reads:

"You chose not to restore the original version of the
files. This may affect Windows stability. Are you sure
you want to keep these unrecognized file versions?'

Chris... I'm getting the same thing and it's making me
crazy. I can't find anywhere to disable this or find what
the fix is. If you find the fix please let me know.

Thanks!

Go to Start > Run and enter cmd
Enter sfc /scannow

SFC, System File Checker, checks protected system files and restores those
overwritten by unauthorized versions.

Hello

I'm new to newgroups. I have the same problem, except that I don't have the CD to install. Have you received any answers at all for this problem?
