I ran the Sony Recover process as Sony Support suggested.
I then loaded XP-Professional and Office XP. I eventually
got my Outlook to work with my backup folders. I then
installed drivers for Lexmark X125 & z32 printers,
Fujifilm digital camera, Palm iQue 3600 and everything
worked fine. I also loaded my Norton Internet Security.
Fine, until I attempted to install my dial-up internet
service that I use on weekends at the cottage. To my
surprise the network connection wizard could not detect my
fax/modem. I called the Local dial-up internet support
line and he told me that I needed to call the Sony
dealer. I then called my business partner and we spent 2
hours on the phone and he found a tech report in the
Microsoft KBase that identified the problem. We played
with a 16 step correction process but it did not work.
We then decided that upon my return home I would
reconnected to my cable high speed, go to Windows Update
and install the latest Windows updates and Sony Updates.
This took me in excess of 10 hours with the result that
now I cannot use my Fn key (at every start-up I see the
Windows error message about sending the report to
Microsoft), the Lexmark X125 is not working , my optical
USB mouse is dead, my Palm synchronization gets lost, and
I haven't yet checked if I can download pictures. So far
the Lexmark Z 32 still works.
