I installed Windows XP Pro on my pc (which also contains
2000 & 98). Once I got a basic setup going - network,
internet, one user (me), etc. I went to Update site to
download and install the lates updates. After all the
updates were installed and computer rebooted, XP did not
recognize any of my old users or settings, and the
desktop was blank. All the programs are still there, but
no icons loaded. Also, the user information is
in "Documents and Settings" folder but it does not
recognize these. When I try to add a new user, it says I
have to add the "Administrator" first. So when I try to
add "Administrator", it says it's already installed. Just
and endless loop going no where. Any ideas how I can fix
this?

Thanks

1) Sounds like you did a clean install, instead of an Upgrade - so of
course WinXP is unaware of the programs installed in Win2k or Win98.
2) At the "Logon Screen", hit the <ALT><CTL> and the <DEL> key twice, type
"Administrator" into the User field and the password you gave Administrator
during setup (WinXP Pro requires you to set this during setup, even though
you may have just clicked ok - in this case it would be blank).
