About 5 months ago i updated my computer from Windows Me to Windows XP
Professional but since then i have been unable to use System Restore - I say
unable to use i can use it but it will only allow me to resore to a point in
the current month and not before. Also which is the most important point,
since installing XP i have completly lost my Windows Office - Word, Excel,
powerpoint etc etc.
Can somebody please advise

You may not have enough space on the drive allocated for more than a month's
worth of restore points.. not a bad thing in reality..

Re. Office programs, re-install them from your Office media CD..

Try it to resolve the problem

go to Start Button --> Run and type "services.msc".
In the right pane of Services Window search for "System Restore
Services"
and open it by double clicking. In the Startup Type select "Automatic"
and Apply
and Click on the "Start" Service Status.

After Restarting the you find Restore Tab in the My Computer Property,
make sure that check box over this dialog box is unchecked.

this will resolve your problem and you will be able to Use System
Restore after that.

The OP can STILL use system restore.. just not beyond and date going back
more than a month, which suggests that the older restore points have been
dumped in favour of newer ones BECAUSE there is not enough space allocated
to keep any more than a months worth..

You say unable to use older restore points, do you mean they are there or
are there no restore points visible older than 1 month?
