I have installed Software Updates Services Server on a
W2k Advanced Server machine. This server serves approx
100 PC's (w2k & a couple XP), but when i try to install
the client, i get the error 'rerquires win2k sp2 or
winXP'. They are all sp4 for 2k & 1a for xp, so should be
able to install this. Can I get them to point to my
server any other way? The server is all ready to go &
synchronised. Many thanks

The client is intergrated in SP1 for WinXP and in SP3 for Win2000. Since you
have those (or higher) installed already, there is no need to install the
client.

It's on page 8 of the SUS Deployguide bye the way...

Hi

You are mis-interpreting the error message (and you aren't the first one, it's
badly worded). Wuau22.msi can *only* be installed on Win2k SP2 and Win XP Gold
(SP0). All newer versions has the SUS client already installed, you only need
to configure the client to start using your SUS server (for details, see
chapter "Configuring the Automatic Updates client software" in the "Software
Update Services Deployment White Paper" downloadable from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/windowsupdate/sus/default.asp :-)


Fyi, there is a separate newsgroup for SUS:
