Update screwed my computer!

Monte Comeau

WinXP Home did an automatic update, restarted my computer for me and now the
external drive does not work and my mouse needed to be unplugged and deluged
before it would work. Takes forever to restart now.....

Any ideas what to do to do?
 
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore. Click
Next to take the default of "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time." Click

For the future, disable auto updates.
