Update problems

I leave my desktop running XP SP2 on all the time except when the
screensaver comes on and later the Power saver turns it off. I noticed that
when I try for a Windows update it goes to the point when it checks whether
I have the latest update engine and then it stops and gives me an error
message that Windows Update has a problem.

If I reboot, the update then goes fine (and I notice that it also moves
through the steps much faster). Why will it not update when the desktop has
not been recently rebooted?

Thanks

Jeff

Sh*t happens when you introduce unnecessary code into the patching
process.
