When I try to download updates for Windows XP, after I
click "Accept", the download progress screen comes up for
only a second. Then, I get a message that
says "Installation Failed...try again".

This has been happennning for about 3 days now.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello!
Start>Run>CMD), type the following commands, pressing ENTER
after each line:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Then try the install again.

I have exactly the same problem - 27 updates to a brand
new PC with Windows XP - and they all fail.

Tried your suggestion, but was denied using the "ren"
(rename) command.

Mike.

Mike,

I ran into this for the first time yesterday. Closed IE, rebooted, and all
worked as expected.
