Update crashed my computer

Just installed the latest updates, then crashed the system. Had to use Sys
restore, which says I have a driver problem. I am not an expert but there
are probably a ka-jillion drivers on this thing. Any easy way to find the
culprit? (By the way, my free download of registry mechanic found,
post-update, that I have 125 errors, which it kindly offers to correct for a
fee. I don't suppose there is another way? And how come Update appears to
have created so many errors?)

Your estimation of "a ka-jillion drivers" is pretty damn close. Obviously,
simply installing the latest Critical Updates from the Windows Update site
should not have caused your system to crash. Your restore point may be old
enough that some obscure driver (one of the ka-jillion present) is causing
the problem. I find System Restore to be problematic, at best, and useless
at the worst. I have disabled it on my system. Don't believe everything
that Registry Mechanic tells you. After all, it is trying to sell you some
software, isn't it? You could try going back to a really old System Restore
point, and then downloading all the Critical Updates you need from that
point on to update your system.
