After installing the security updates today, my Outlook no longer worked. It
prompted to run Outlook and make it the default mail client.

I'm sure this doesn't help you but I also ran security
updates yesterday and my OUTLOOK (Beta 2007) is fine.

I had a similar problem. After putting on the security updates last night,
Outlook 2007 Beta would not open correctly, showing this error: "Either there
is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the
messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the
default mail client."

I am running IE7 Beta and Microsoft Office 2007 Beta.

In Add or Remove Programs, I uninstalled these patches:
917334 Word, 917953 TCP/IP, restart
918439 ART Image Rendering, 911280 Routing and Remote Access, restart
914389 SMB restart

But none of that fixed it.

I then ran System Restore to a System Checkpoint from 6-12 and that fixed it.

I think it has something to do with the recent updates. But I have never
updated the Junk Email Filter, and it did not appear in Add/Remove Programs,
so I don't think it updated automatically.

I also got my system back by restoring it to a point prior to the updates. I
then went and read the update descriptions and tried again by leaving the
Outlook 2003 Junk e-mail filter update off and the other 7 my system called
for;

KB905474
KB914389
KB911280
KB917334
KB890830
KB917953
KB916518
KB918439

Some of these are for Office 2003 applications. Everything seems to run but
I haven't got to use each of them them extensively.

I got the same message as Outlook tried to open. Then once the window had
opened, I got "The file ExSec32.dll is incompatible with Microsoft Office
Outlook. Install Outlook again." Windows then requests an error report is
sent to Microsoft and closes the application. :-(

Did you get the Outlook 2003 Junk e-mail update? I removed it and all is
fine.

I removed the OL03 junk e-mail update, but it didn't fix the problem. I then
restarted the machine, just in case, but OL07b was still broken. So I had to
resort to a System Restore, which fixed everything.

I had the problem and I "upgraded" OL03 to OL07b. I wonder if the problem
doesn't affect those who did a clean install (or who uninstalled previous
versions of office first)?

I received the same error this morning. The only way to fix the issue
that I found was to use the Office 07 repair utility under Add/Remove
Programs.

I finally caught up with the other people here -- I am using Office 2007, so
I need to turn off automatic updates and do them manually with the Custom
option. That way I can see the Office updates and refuse them. I don't see
any way to automatically put in Windows updates but not Office updates.

The problem might be limited to Outlook 2007 using Exchange Server. Try to
repair the installation after installing new updates - this worked for me.

My Ooutlook2007 is also goosed thanks to these supposed updates. The problem
is that at work we all got an email saying - major security vunerability -
update your laptop from windowsupdate today. So i did and now I can't get
into any email. :-(

Try Office Diagnostics (Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft
Office Tools).

It has nothing to do with Exchange Server as I am having the same problems
when using SMTP and POP.

Does Office Diagnostics resolve the issue? (Start, All Programs,
Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Tools). If not, does repairing the
Office 2007 installation help (Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs)?
