Open Start, Run, type without quotation marks 'sysdm.cpl', click OK, press the Automatic Updates tab and select 'Turn off Automatic Updates'. Click OK and Windows will not alert you when new updates are available.
Once done that, please, do not forget to visit frequently the Microsoft Update website (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate) to install all monthly security updates.
Go to Start>Control Panel>Security Center
In the left pane, click "Change the way windows security center alerts me"
Uncheck appropriate
