: A toolbar entitled Global Toolbar.com has installed itself on my computer and it has some very unwelcome ads haging on it. I cannot delete this toolbar nor can I delete the ads. I delted all of my temporary internet folders and nothing is working.
: What do you suggest?
:
I suggest going to
www.sysinternals.com and downloading "process
explorer and autoruns.
Use process explorer to kill the process that runs the toolbar, then
use autoruns to find and delete the "startup" line in the registry
that starts it up on boot.
Good luck.
Get a router or a software firewall going, and use another browser
that does not support ActiveX. I suggest Mozilla Firebird. Faster
and better, no security risk. You need Internet Explorer for the
patches though, but use it only for patches. Security set low for
windowsupdates.com in the trusted zone. Everything else high
security. If you use Outlook Express, set security "high".
Or, go to
www.pmail.com and download the *best* email program,
Pegasus. Free too. Warnings before reading dodgy html, dodgy
attachments, fast, efficient, reliable.
Jeez, I'm opinionated.
