I have an HP Pavillion laptop, XP and Office 2003. When I type I get
unwanted characters. For instance, I type an "S" and I get "SKJ". I have
to back space nearly every other key stroke to correct error.
I've scan for updates to resolve the problems. Virus detector programs are
negative.

Please advise,

Aside from a broken keyboard,
If you have the language bar running in the taskbar (properties, toolbars,
check it to show it) you may have the mic listening for speech input, causing
problems in typing. I suggest going to the "Regional and Language settings"
applet in control panel Language Tab, Details button, Preferences, Language
Bar button put a check in the box to "turn off advanced text services"

Could well be the AutoCorrect feature where this is set to "auto correct" S
to SKG as you type.

I'm not sure if it's the same in Office 2003, but in Office 97 Pro, select
Tools > AutoCorrect and in the AutoCorrect dialogue box that appears, scroll
down and if you find 'S' in the left hand pane and SKG opposite it on the
right, simply delete them.
