UNSHADING COMMANDS

I am new to Microsoft word. I am trying to copy and paste, but the paste
command is gray shaded. How do I unshade these commands! THANKS
 
There must be something on the Clipboard in order to paste. Some add-ins
clear the Clipboard when you start Word; try copying again after starting
Word, then see if you can paste.
