unsafe attachments, what's this?

I am suddenly getting messages in Outlook Express that it has denied access
to unsafe attachments. However, I don't believe these attachments are
unsafe. It won't even let me save them so that I can scan them with my
anti-virus software. Do these attachments definitely have a virus or has OE
simply decided that I won't receive attachments anymore?

Ask in a newsgroup for Outlook Express (which used to be called Internet
News & Mail). This newsgroup is for Outlook, a component of Microsoft's
Office suite.

By the way, did you bother to check your program's options? When a
program's behavior isn't quite what you want, where do you first look?
Options! Blocking potentially unsafe attachments is a security measure,
so under what type of options might there be a setting to override this
default security protection, hmmmm?

hit forward, then save the attachment :)
It's a new security feature to prevent accidental opening of viruses, either
by yourself or scripting. you can disable it in tools | options | security,
but I think the extra effort to hit forward is safer and well worth the
extra click.

No, I didn't check the options because this started doing it all by itself
and wasn't something I had configured. Apparently it's a Mickeysoft update
feature that changes the configuration without asking. I inquired in this
newsgroup because most people who know Outlook also know it is so similar to
OE that an answer is usually forthcoming immediately, which it was. The
purists get so upset about something even remotely off-topic. I also own
Mickeysoft's Office Suite with Outlook but it doesn't do newsgroups so I use
OE. Does legal ownership of Mickeysoft's suite grant permission for me to
ask an OE question here? Yep, it sure does in my book.

That answered my question. thanks!

The only problem with your reasoning, in my book, is that there are SO MANY
off-topic OE posts in the Outlook newsgroups for us to wade through on a
daily basis. It's one thing when the OE users don't realize the programs
are different -- it's another when they know but don't want to bother
posting to the right group.

So what is the name of the newsgroup? I can't find an OE newsgroup. Should I
post to IE because its part of IE? Or perhaps to XP because IE is part of
XP. This is nonsense, Outlook and OE are virtually the same for all
practical purposes. More Mickeysoft BS.

As you are using OE for news, type in "outlookexpress" and you should find
quite a lot of groups.

Follow Gordon's advice, and if your search doesn't come up with any matching
groups, maybe your news server doesn't carry them. Add the free
msnews.microsoft.com news server to your OE news server list and you'll find
the OE groups there.
