unremovable file

on my desktop theres a file that cant be deleted despite the fact that no
other programs using it.Also i hv tried scandisk on the drive without any
result.

Press F8 repeatedly during the early boot phase, then
boot into Safe Mode and delete the file.

FYI, there is no scandisk in XP. It's chkdsk.
 
* Start > Run, type msconfig, click OK
* Select BOOT.ini tab, check SAFEBOOT
Note:
-If on Local computer-click OK
-If on a Network computer-check NETWORK > click OK

* find the file & delete
* Start > Run, type msconfig, click OK
* Select 'General' tab
* Select 'Normal Startup-load all device drivers & services' , click OK
* Restart computer
