Unrecognized database format

Hi guys,
I haven't used Access before and I am trying to open a
file that has been sent to me by someone. I keep getting
the above error.
The sender has xp pro and his version of access is 2003
I have xp home and my version just says microsoft access.
would this be the problem, or is it something else?

appreciate your help.

Open it and select Help... About. I'm almost certain (based on the
error message) that you have an older version of Access than that in
which this database was created. A2003 defaults to A2000 format, but
can also use 2003 or 2002 format - and neither A2000 nor any older
version can read these, but will instead give this "unrecognized"
error message.

Your friend can use Tools... Convert... To Previous Version to create
an Access97 version of the database. If you have A95 or older...
upgrade.
