Unrecognised Database Format

We have windows 2000 and office 2000 with the latest upgrades.

All users have a front end on their desktop.

Periodically 2/3 times a week the back end goes down "Unrecognised database
format .... ..xx_be.mdb. This means every coming out and repaing the back
end. (40Mb about 2 mins). I cant identify a user or a pc it may be when
someone is amending queries on their own front end??

Any thoughts would be much appricated.

ps had similar setup using NT, Win 98 and Office 97 and no problems!

It is probably cause by a user or a bad NIC. The user situation can be
corrected by training. (i.e. Don't turn off the PC when the database is
open.) It could be that something is hanging, and the user is simply
rebooting to fix it. You need to address the root cause.

The NIC (or other hardware, since it could be something as simple at a bad
connection in a cable end) is more difficult to trace. High end signal
tracers can help, but without one, you'll need to use trial and error
replacing/moving NICs, cables, etc. until you find it.

Communication with your workers may help find a starting place. One thing
for certain, you need plenty of good backups, especially until you find the
problem.

I'd check out the OpLocks solution first. Then double check the Jet
versions on all the systems.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption
