Hey all, before my computer had to be restarted a few weeks ago I managed to save over 4,000 media files to CDs using Nero, I checked them at the time and could read them from the disks, however now my pc is back up and running everytime I put one of them in I get a message saying "Windows can not read from the disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format which is not compatible with Windows." Is there anyway at all to get to the files? they were all MP3s and I really dont understand what the problem is.

Thanks
Alex

Did you use CD-R or CD-RW disks? Do you remember which format you got
Nero to use? Did you burn the files in multisession or single session?
Did you close the disks? What do you mean by your computer 'had to be
restarted' a few weeks ago? Did you have to reformat or reinstall your
operating system, etc?

I used CD-R disks...and I did close them...I used single sessions. I had to format my hard drive and start from scratch, reinstalling XP. I dont know which format I got Nero to use, it must have been the default setting.

Another symptom is that nearly every time I try to explore a CD-R everything goes dead....the only way I can regain control is to go to task manager>processes and end 'explorer.exe' then manually restart it.

Thanks for any help,
Alex

Go to Start > Help and Support, and search for "Drives and Network
Adapters Troubleshooter" [without the quotes] and run the CD-ROM
troubleshooter. Let us know the findings and whether it solves the
issues.
