unread e-mails

hi everyon
new to this so im not sure if ive posted in the right placeWhen I turn my computer on, i am told on the start up screen that I have 1 unread e-mail , but when I go into my e-mails i have no unread e-mails
it says that the e-mail is in my hotmail account
How do I reset this so that Im not showing any unread e-mai
Better still is there a settin I can change so that it dosnt show how many unread e-mails I have on the startup screee
