unpleasant sounds when using Cut & Paste

I'm running Excel 2000 under XP Home, all Office patches &
updates applied (9.0.6926 SP-3). When I cut, copy and/or
paste (using edit or right click menu), I hear a very
unpleasant sound for each operation, something like "boin..
ggg" for cut/copy and a high pitched "swoosh" for paste.
*Occasionally*, I get a normal copy sound, never a normal
paste sound.

This does not happen in Word, nor in any other application
where the same editing operations are performed. - I've had
to mute all sounds in self-defense, but this isn't a
satisfactory solution.

My computer is a Dell 8300, 512MB memory.

Any clues, not to speak of solutions, would be very
welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi Justine!

Use:

Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
Sounds Tab
Scroll down and find the boin...ggg and swoosh and change

You might find it better to change the drop down to "Windows Default"

Next find the person who changed the settings and boin..ggg them!

Hi Justine,

I think you have to take a look on your settings ,in control pannel
choose sounds and verify again

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I had checked every
single sound in the CP sound list, and none of them sound
remotely like the sounds I'm hearing. - "Provide feedback
with sound" was never checked. I've since heard the swoosh
sound when closing a program, but I can't find a
close-program action on the CP sounds list.
