there is a tool which offers to analyze and remove
unreferenced/unnecessary DLL libraries from the WinXP system. Is this
tool reliable ?

Are there any newer tools with similar functionality ?

In my experience, the tool is realiable. AnalogX is a pretty good resource.
HOWEVER, you want to be certain the removed DLLs aren't there for some
future use or you could end up confused later on when you reinstall that app
and a dll it needs from the OS is no longer there.

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to remove unused DLLs, especially
those provided by the OS that some future program might make use of. It can
get pretty frustrating trying to figure out why the program can't install
and says x.dll is missing or corrupted and so on.

Ymmv of course.
