Encountered BSOD with Umountable_boot_volume error
message. No new software or hardware added to my Dell
Dimension 8200 recently. Ran diagnostics from Utilities CD
provided by Dell and sytem passed on all. Tried to access
the recovery console from Windows XP Home CD to run
chkdsk /R, but when I select R from the menu I get another
BSOD with Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area error and it
references ntfs.sys file as causing the problem. Spent the
weekend on the phone with Dell support and they gave up
and advised me to reformat the drive and reinstall Windows
XP home, don't want to do this unless absolutely
necessary. Have not found any fixes on Microsoft's website
that I can run successfully. Anyone have any ideas?

Help,

Rob F.

You can try the Following options:
1. Remove the Additional Hardware and Try to Boot the computer
2. Remove the Additional Hardware and try to Boot the computer in Recovery Console and run chkdsk /p and then chkdsk /r
3. If You have more than One Sticks of RAM try removing one and Boot the computer in Recovery console and Execute the Chkdsk commands.

You can Try any or all of the above options to Resolve the Problem

Thanks,

I looked at the links you suggested. Some of the
resolutions I had already tried unsuccessfully. The ones
that offer Service paks or support files from MS might be
of some use if I could get the files onto the diabled box.
The Dell will not boot even in safe mode and I have not
been able to get a c:\prompt to copy something from the
floppy. Any suggestions?

Rob.

Hi

If the drive is FAT32, you can use a Win ME/98 bootup disk to access 'DOS' -
then try copying from the floppy.

Help,

Rob F. *lhttp://techtips4u.com/downloads/#winxp_en_pro_bf[/url]

This is the Boot disk for Windows XP home. Will not work for XP Pro
Copy and paste the following

line to your brosers address bar: http://tinyurl.com/3626m

and use it instead of the XP CD.

NOTE: *** The Win XP boot disk takes 6 floppy disks. ***

If this doesn't do it for you post me a message I still have one mor
for you to try, but please try

these first.. I'll check back GOOD LUCK!
