unlocking word docs

Hi! I just moved word docs to a new computer and they are all locked....I am
now unable to edit....Is there a way to unlock, and why are they locked?

Did you move them by copying them to a CD. If so, by default they will have
by default has the Read Only Attribute set. You can turn it of, by
selecting all of the documents on your hard disk in Windows Explorer and
then right click and select Properties and uncheck the Read Only box.

But, it is more likely that the circumstances described above are the cause
of the problem.
