I opened a new word document, went to start my typing, and a message pops up
at the bottom that says "This modification is not allowed because the
document is locked." So I was wondering how I unlock it!!

If you have a trial version of Office, perhaps it has expired. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831023 "How to convert a Office 2003 Trial
Edition to a Full Retail Edition".

If you have a regular version of Office, have you activated it? In Word or
Excel, click on Help | Activate Product. If you are activated, a dialog box
will pop up that says so. If you are not activated, the Activation Wizard
will start.

This messge occur is because the word document have be set the password for
the modification purposes. try to get the password from the owner and test it
,ok .
i hope my suggestion may help u .

Hi, littlething. Lynneajean says this problem happens when she opens a
new document... a new document does not have a password.

How do I unlock a document? I had transferred it from a Pc to a Notebook and
I can't edit it.

Help, please
Gretchen

How did you transfer it, and what error message do you get?
