I have this utility, Autostart, which identifies hundreds of dlls,
drivers etc loaded at startup.
Where can I find a good guide to describe which entries are safe to
delete? I tried to delete a few and ended up unable to login and had to
reinstall.
Thank you

Hello

I would just leave them alone. As you found out serious issues can arise. Using any automated cleaner can and will most likely cause the same issue that you have already encountered.

One sure fire way to get rid of them is to do a fresh new clean install. You have to decide. Leaving them alone will not do harm to your system Playing and trying to remove them manually or with a program can and will cause problems

Do not delete DLLs unless all associated applications have been deleted that
use them.
This is the prime way of destroying your system.
You got lucky the first time.

What is the purpose of deleting DLLs for, anyway? They are only in play
when loaded, and an application has to load them.

A safer bet would be to look at the Version information on a DLL, and then
determine what company/application it belongs to. And then Add/Remove that
application.
