My Norton Internet Security has quarantined a file called
signature.xls.pif - I don't know where is came from, but I
have Win 98 and recently switched from using Outlook
Express to Outlook. My antivirus is always up to date,
but I can't find anything on this item at their web site.
Has anyone seen this? What should I do with it and will
it cause problems if I leave it under quarantine? I
rarely use Excel and only have it for when someone sends
me excel files I have to (first scan, then) open. Any
suggustions welcome.

Thank you - its done!

Dawn,

Yes, you should set Windows to display file extensions. From a Windows
Explorer folder window, choose Folder Options from the Tools menu, then
choose the View tab. There, uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file
types" option.

Besides deleting that .pif file,
make sure you empty your wastebasket as well.

You should be able to hold the Shift Key when you use
the delete key to delete immediately without it going to the
wastebasket.

Some macros rely on being found in the wastebasket to
continue afer a reboot. If it is in your wastebaske your anti-virus
program should find it again. Don't think you want to test that.
