I receive 2 emails from Microsoft about downloading a
secuirty patch with an attachment. The 2 emails were
identical except from different senders at Microsoft.
Both had files attached in dos exe format. I find this
very strange. Should I open them. If you suspect them to
be viruses as I do send me an email address to forward.

A devious imposter is "spoofing" Microsoft and attempting to deceive you
into installing a malicious VIRUS in your computer! Delete the VIRUS
laden message immediately!

Microsoft never sends file attachments with email messages!

Please take a moment to read the following articles:

If in doubt go to the Microsoft automatic update page for
any security patches - do not open these files.

Microsoft never sends unsolicited files by email.
DO NOT open the file--it is NOT from MS.
REPEAT:Microsoft NEVER sends unsolicited files by email.

It is a virus masquerading as MS security.
The most recent is W32/Swen@MM which can be removed with Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

The others circulating are dumaru.b
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]
or a variant of the gibe worm.
Removal tool for gibe is at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

.
I read on the universities web site this is a virus.

if it makes you feel better i get 20-40 a day also.

there is one way to avoid all of this and more
that is to use hotmail for registering for everything
that way you can be sure not to get spam and these bloody
viri dressed as updates
another way to stop it would be to put the bastards in
prison for 12 months NO CONSESSIONS! i,ll eat my hat if
it didnt work.
