unknown password

I inherited a Dell with Windows XP from my Dad. It is password protected.
How can I get past the password requirement. I also don't know the admin.

Can I just reload the operating system? And can anyone tell me how to do
that?

I recommend when getting a used computer to do a clean install of the OS and
applications. That way you don't inherit any of the operating problems or
