Unknown Partition.

In Administrative Tools_Computer management- Disk Management i noticed 3
partitions the 1 i created and 2 others. 1 is ( EISA Configuration) its 31MB
..The other is an "Unknown" and its 3.41GB. The one that is 3.41GB I can
erase .The other 31MB I cant. I dont recall seeing them before. Any
suggestions??

It's common for there to be a very small amount of space left over when
partitioning a drive...
Since the 31 megs is very small...it's best to just forget about it...
If you managed to modify it...you could possibly loose all data on your
drive.

BTW: How did you get XP installed on an EISA machine...
or are you just running NT ?

Before you go deleting those partitions you might want to check
with the computer manufacturer or the manual that came with
your computer.

The small partition may contain diagnostic programs that can be
run by hitting a certain key when the computer first starts.
Also, if your computer did not come with an XP installation CD
then there's a good possibility that the "Unknown" partition
contains the files needed to restore your computer to its
original configuration.

i bought this dell with the xp already installed.. it had 44.50gb when i
first got it and only 1 partition. I have no idea what EISA is or how it I
ended up with 3 partitions. But when I add up the space alloted to the 2 "
other"partitions it adds up to my original space 44.50GB. Its just strange
to me something ive never had happen before ............................

Well I would not fool with any of it...
the tiny partition of 31 megs is not worth fooling with
and the 3.4 gig partition is possibly a recocery partition...so i would
leave it all as it is.

EISA is very old technology...
that was used on a few 386 and 486 machines...
so it must be something else in the case of your newer system
