When I try to run xp defrag tool, it gets to 89% of analysis then stops with
an error message. Scan was cancelled because of an error in file
C:\Recycled\Dc1.sys. I have run search and googled this particular file but
it doesn't seem to exist. How do I get my defrag to work again and what is
Dc1.sys?

Hi

Have you virus-checked your system with the latest definitions for your AV
program and also checked for any spyware that may be on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Hi Will,
I have run adaware with latest reference file
Spybot search and destroy with latest updates
PC Bug Doctor
Norton Antivirus
CWShredder
Hijackthis

and nothing has shown up. I am quite concerned about this Dc1.sys file, I
can find no reference to it at all

I have just tried to run another program and I get a balloon message from
the systray telling me that C:\Recycled\Dc1.sys is corrupt and that I should
run chkdsk utility. When I run this I get a message telling me that the size
of the \Recycled\Dc1.sys is not valid

Hi

Is the file actually in the Recycle Bin or anywhere on your hard disk? From
a (c:) command prompt type the following to see if the file is there:

dir dc1.sys /a/s
