Hi. Frustration !! New laptop with OEM Vista - imported mail from other Vista
Windows Mail machine via backup/restore.

When I open WM it happily goes and checks/collects mail - BUT then whenever
I or machine tries to subsequently retrieve email it says an Unknown error
has occurred but does not show any error details ! WM will allow me to send
mail after the initial successful check so only receiving. (is checking 2
email accounts on same server)
Nothing sticking as not deleted in any folders and have run WMUtil. Also
tried Windows Live Mail but that set up would not even allow me to receive
email on the initial opening attempt!

having same problem with 2 seperate accounts on seperate servers.....not DSL
provider, not firewalls......HELP!

This problem may be caused by your antivirus program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
