Hi everyone,

I have been developing a VB6 database application that
uses an Access database as its datasource. A couple of
days ago, I accidentally deleted that database file. The
next day, I downloaded and installed a recovery program to
undelete the file. The program said it recovered the file
successfully and stored it on one of my network drives.

I attempted to open that file with MS Access 2003 and I
got a Jet 4.0 "Unknown Database" error. Does anyone know
of anyway that I can either repair this file or recover
the data that is in the file?

Thanks,

Robert

If an Access compact and repair does not revive it, I can only suggest you
contact a data recovery service. Peter Miller, http://www.pksolutions.com
has a good reputation, but recently was on an extended travel schedule. If
you can't reach him, I believe MVP Tony Toews has some links to others who
do data recovery on his site at http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm.

With everything in one file, an Access/Jet database will have a lot of
internal addresses and pointers that might be "off" after an "undelete". If
you have an even-near-recent backup, that might be a better starting point.

I suggest scheduling backups the way one of my managers from mainframer days
suggested project planning, only two times: "early" and "often".
