Unit of measurement ("ch")?

Help! I need to change the default unit of measurement in my paragraph
indentation dialog box from "ch" to inches. I don't even know what the hell
"ch" is!
 
Tools > Options, click the General tab, change "Measurement units" to "Inches".

I'm not sure what "ch" stands for.

Thank you for being so responsive. I actually attempted to use the "tools"
menu as you suggested, but to no avail.
