Is it possible to uninstall the SPS2??
I have Xp Pro on new computer with autodownload turn on
so when the SPS2 downloaded I just ran it. Since then the
computer has been painfully slow. After reading thru forum have noticed few
poeple saying needed to do spyware/adware check, turn of virus scanner etc
before installing SPS2.
well unfortnately for me I didn't do these.
Computer was superfast before installing SPS2 and is mega slow now.
Have tried spybot, adaware, defrag, checking disk errors,
emptying cookies, deleting temp internet files and full virus scan but it al
l failed to get the computer to log on and load up programs quicker.
Would it be easier for me to uninstall SPS2 then do the above then re instal
l it?? or am I likely to have to reformat and re install everything from CD'

Hi

Yes, it is possible to uninstall SP2.

You should find a SP2 uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs.

The following command will also start the uninstall program if it
is available:

%windir%\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

(run it e.g. from Start/Run)

Also, if you have a Dell Dell Inspiron 1150 or 2650, you might get a
slow running system after installing SP2, take a look at this thread
for more on this:

same with me. what a disappointment with the update. hv been advised not to
uninstall it though. where is the update to fix the SPS2 ?

Kim,

Your reply is confusing....either you did or didn't install SP2. That said,
I have installed it on over 300 systems and have not had any issues.

As for his issues, without knowing more, running sypware cleaners, etc won't
help in this case, if all was well before and now. However, with SP2 the
Security Center comes into play and he will need to start his
troubleshooting there. Even before SP2, firewalls/AV's were the main
culprit for slowdowns anyway.

Added note to the OP: Run -

Use add/remove for SP2 and you are automatically put back in SP1. Note: This
is XP Home but it should be the same for Pro.

You should uninstall it immediately, while you still can. If you
make too many changes trying to fix things, you may make it
impossible to cleanly uninstall SP2, and then you are screwed.

There is no update to fix SP2. It installs just fine for the vast
majority of systems with proper preparation:
