I have a hewlett packard computer that had windows 98 on it
when I bought it almost 5 years ago. I had to go back to
school so I upgraded it to windows xp and used it for a
while but it went so slow and was running out of memory for
storage so I bought a new one. I have the computer to my
sons for their games (sesame street, etc. they are young)
anyway there games are compatible with only windows 95 or
98 so they won't install on that computer now that it has
xp on it. I tried to find a way to uninstall xp so I could
get the computer back to windows 98 but in the directions
it said to go to the add/remove programs to do it that it
would be listed, well it is not listed. How do I uninstall
it so I can go back to using windows 98? I never
uninstalled windows 98 so it too is on the computer. Please
help me.
Thanks ,
Charity

The Elder Geek's instructions are here, BUT (see note):

http://www.theeldergeek.com/uninstall_xp_from_command_prom
pt.htm

Important Note: This procedure is available only if a
successful image of the previous operating system was
created during the XP upgrade.
Minus an image, you could do a clean installation of
Windows 98, assuming you have the installation CD.
If you have to do a clean installation of Windows 98,
this link should help you with the drive formatting:

OR, see Carey Frisch's reply to Katie in a post
(uninstalling xp)on the afternoon of March 1, 2004.
