Hello,

My husband is trying to uninstall XP for my sister. She NEVER used
antivirus, did not do the updates, UGGGHHHH!!!!\\ There isn't the option
on the control panel, we have tried to fdisk but XP I guess will not allow.
We want to put Win. ME on it because she will never get the updates and
service packs downloaded regularly....

Any suggestions??

You should be able to FDISK from the command prompt. Just boot the computer
up with a bootable floppy, and run FDISK.

Nope, it just freezes.... That is why we stick to our Macs. I am in web design and graphics and Microsoft can't come close. Mac's have their nitch... LOVE YOUR quote... My hubby just put PC Dos and then WIN 95 on my sisters 2GHZ/80 gig harddrive machine. Yes, we know its not supported but then good support ended after WIN 3.1.

thanks.

Hello
I am assuming you have a boot disk, if not you can download one here.
www.bootdisk.com
Download the one for 98SE or ME
Boot the computer from the disk then type fdisk hit enter, it has been a
while since I did this but I think it will ask you something about large
disk just select Y and enter then you will have to delete the NON-DOS
partition the you will be able to create a DOS partition and load Windows
ME, which will also have to be updated and have virus software.

The normal way to "uninstall" _any_ operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

However, if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to
backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS,
then all you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
