Sounds like you corrupted your system because Windows XP Home
Edition is not designed to upgrade over Windows 2000. Only
Windows XP Professional can perform an upgrade over Windows 2000.

I would suggest performing a "clean install" of either Windows XP
Home Edition or Windows 2000.

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format
the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice.

Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup
the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can
you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the
uninstall option to be available.

You will have to make copies on removable media of all your important
files before doing anything.Try taking XP home back to the store and
get XP Pro instead.
